Lunch with Griff…too much steak…and other adventures!

Today I got the chance to hang out with my friend Josh Griffin who is the High School Pastor at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA. Josh is an awesome guy/awesome youth pastor/Star Wars nerd and all around great guy.

I took Josh out to a steak house (that’s how we roll in South Orange County baby!) and we ate massive amounts of beef. But we also had the chance to talk about youth ministry: what works/what doesn’t/highlights/strategy/etc. During the course of our conversation we covered a TON of great content and over the next couple days a bunch of my upcoming posts will be based off of some of the ideas that we discussed over lunch. However today I just want to touch on the fact that is is SO IMPORTANT to have wise & Godly mentors in your life and ministry. If you desire to be a great youth pastor to students you NEED to learn from others who have done it longer/have done it better.

You can learn a ton from reading books on youth ministry, from going to conferences and the like…AND there is something incredible about sitting knee to knee with a fellow youth worker asking probing questions. What kind of questions do you have in your youth ministry setting? What things are challenging you lately with your students/leaders? Leave some comments below and let’s get some great conversation going! :D

Rob
